Yahoo Lifestyle Cowboys set to release receiver Allen Hurns
The Dallas Cowboys are set to release receiver Allen Hurns, via ESPN.
The 27-year-old will become a free agent once the transaction is final.
Terrible ankle injury in playoffs
Hurns suffered a gruesome broken left ankle in the first quarter of Dallas’ wild-card playoff game against Seattle in January.
The injury happened at the tail end of a 14-yard catch by Hurns on third down, and was so bad that Fox, which was airing the game, wouldn’t show replays. In still photos, Hurns is on his stomach on the turf but the toes of his left foot were pointed the opposite way.
He is reportedly healthy now after surgery and rehab.
Hurns signed a two-year, $11 million free-agent contract with the Cowboys in 2018. He played in all 16 regular-season games with seven starts but totaled just 20 receptions for 295 yards and two scores.
Testing the market
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Cowboys asked Hurns to take a pay cut, but he wanted to test the market and see what kind of opportunities he might have.
Hurns’ base salary was to be $4 million this season.
In his first four NFL seasons with Jacksonville, Hurns totaled 189 catches for 2,669 yards and 21 touchdowns.
