Courtney Love Makes a Bold Declaration About the 'Genius' Celebrity She Has a 'Mad Crush On'
Courtney Love shared some new insight on the musician she has a “mad crush on” and hopes to someday work with during a recent interview.
Speaking with The Standard for an article that the U.K. newspaper published on Tuesday, Nov. 26, the former Hole singer addressed her recent song with Danielle Balbuena, who releases music as 070 Shake, before mentioning a handful of other musicians she hopes to work with in the future. In addition to British rapper Stormzy and American rapper Doja Cat, Love identified Kendrick Lamar as a dream songwriting partner.

“I would love to work with Kendrick Lamar; I have a mad crush on him,” Love, 60, told the paper. She later reiterated her “big crush on Kendrick” as she dubbed him a “genius.”
Though Love expressed an eagerness to work with the 37-year-old “Not Like Us” rapper, she also indicated that she felt uncertain about merging her rock and grunge leanings with rap. “I'm pretty rock-oriented myself and unsure how those collaborations can happen without feeling awkward,” she said, adding that the success of genre-merging projects "depends on the producer.”
Lamar came up in conversation again later in the interview as Love was responding to a question about her favorite song lyrics. “He's undoubtedly the best hip-hop writer ever; his flow is beautiful and his lyrics thoughtful,” she gushed. Just in case Lamar should happen upon the interview, Love then addressed him directly as part of her answer. “Kendrick – if you're reading this – did you listen to Leonard Cohen or Bowie growing up? Because it sounds like it!"
Love was most recently featured on 070 Shake’s cover of “Song to the Siren,” a song initially written and released by Tim Buckley. Love’s version with 070 Shake appeared on the rapper’s latest album Petrichor, which was released earlier this month.
