Morgan Myles found forever with Taylor Place.

The country singer exclusively revealed to PEOPLE she's engaged to Place, her boyfriend, after he got down on one knee on July 14 at her home in Nashville. Reflecting on the events that led to her engagement that day, Myles candidly describes the chaos that ensued as "hysterical."

In the days leading up, Myles had been working long hours at a recording studio in Los Angeles and planned to fly back the same morning for what her parents led her to believe was a surprise birthday party for a family friend. When she landed, her mom was on her case about wearing the "blue dress" she bought her — but she was too exhausted from her flight to think anything of it.

"On the way, we're about 10 minutes from the house, my mom goes, 'Oh, my God. Our neighbor next door said that there's cops at the house.' So immediately, I go to the worst because I was doing my laundry, and there's an older dryer upstairs, and I thought I had set the house on fire," Myles, who starred on season 22 of The Voice, tells PEOPLE.

The "Whiskey Dreaming" singer continues, "So my dad starts driving more recklessly to go back to the house. And I'm like, 'Is the fire department there?' My dog is my everything. And I'm thinking, Teddy's locked in the house. I am really, really scared."

When she arrived to her house, Myles immediately ran inside to make sure everything was OK. Then, her mom said, "Morgan, you better see this..." causing Myles to panic even more.

"I see Taylor holding flowers in the backyard, and I go, 'What the hell?' I can't even process. I'm so overwhelmed. My heart's beating. We get back there, and my two friends had obviously helped, it was hysterical," she recalls.

"I'm hearing Céline Dion blasting," she adds. "The only thing I hear from Taylor is just, 'Will you...' I still stick to the fact that he didn't say anything. He's on one knee, and I go, 'Wait.' I couldn't process. So I was like, 'Wait, are we not going to the birthday party?' And he goes, 'Babe, you got to say yes. You got to give me an answer.' I'm like, 'Well, yes, of course.'"

She concludes, "What a s---show from my end. [But] it was really cute."

Despite the shock factor, Myles knew an engagement with Place was fast approaching: "A big reason why I think he proposed sooner than I thought was because he can't keep a secret to save his life and I love that. I mean, marry a man that can't keep anything from you."

The "Mad at Myself" singer and Place were introduced in December 2023 by a mutual friend. At the time, she didn't want to get her hopes up because she'd "been through so much when it comes to relationships and been broken so many times."

"I was getting to the point where I knew I couldn't settle for somebody. Just too many situations in my life that I knew I'd rather be happy by myself. So I think where I had gotten to was a true place of self-love." she says. "But there was a level of loneliness that I think I was denying because I was always that girl that knew she wanted to have a family. I remember crying to mom several times and saying, 'Why is this so hard? Is it me? What is it?'"

After they met, they connected instantly and she realized she'd never "found anybody that aligns so much with me and has such a good heart."

Weeks later, Place — who's a contractor — FaceTimed Myles' grandmother while she was in hospice. After the call, her grandmother looked at her and said, "Don't mess this one up."

"You can't show someone how to be there for a person. God gives you these situations to show you who they really are. When he came to the funeral, that's how he met most of my family for the first time. He already met my parents, but he had to meet all my family at a very vulnerable moment," she says.

This is the moment Myles knew she was in love.

"I've always had to be by myself. And this was the first funeral that he was like, 'If you allow me to come, I want to be there for you because that's what you do.' And I was like, 'You are the first person that has ever stepped up and said it.'"

Now, Place gives her a feeling of home.

"Everything else in the world when we're together just doesn't matter. No matter how stressed, or busy, or whatever is going on, there's this warmth and a home feeling without being home," she says. "It's a very hard feeling to describe but it's very real. I know this man won't hurt me. I can see the future."

Myles and Place have set the wedding date for October 2025 and he's planning on moving to Nashville with Myles. She also released a single — the first release off her forthcoming album — called "That's What You Get with Me" on Tuesday, Aug. 27, which she wrote to "manifest" the kind of man she wanted to end up with before meeting Place.

"It was this moment of being very vulnerable, and ready, and being like, 'This is what you get with me. I'm not perfect. But man, my heart is bigger than you can think, and it will always love you.'"
