A couple has named their newborn twins ‘Covid’ and ‘Corona’ after the pandemic sweeping across the world.

The twins, a boy and a girl, were born on March 27, during the lockdown in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, with their parents deciding to name them after the new strain of coronavirus, COVID-19.

“The delivery happened after facing several difficulties and therefore, my husband and I wanted to make the day memorable,” the twins’ mother, Preeti Verma, told news agency Press Trust of India.

Preeti said the hospital staff first started calling the babies ‘Covid’ and ‘Corona’ and in the end she and her husband decided to name them after the pandemic, to remind them of the hardships they faced during lockdown and how they got through it together.

At the time of writing, India had 3.588 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, with 99 deaths.

Experts are predicting a baby boom due the coronavirus self-isolation rules put in place.

Dr Sheri Jacobson, clinical director at Harley Therapy, a psychotherapy clinic in London, told the Times that there was a ‘strong possibility’ that hospitals will be a lot busier in nine months time.

“There will be more contact and opportunity,” she said.

‘In this early period, staying at home might feel like a break from the norm, creating a short holiday effect.”

Dr Karen Phillip is a Counselling Psychotherapist and relationship expert, previously told Yahoo Lifestyle that couples should sit down and map out a solid plan of attack for their isolation period.

Dr Phillip says the sky is the limit and recommends you embark on any and every curiosity you haven’t had the time to explore.

“Just play games, play cards, play strip poker if you’re so inclined,” she says.

“Anything at all like that to keep things fun. Put on some music and do the craziest dance you can learn”
