Colman Domingo Says Upcoming “Michael” Biopic Will 'Humanize' Michael Jackson: 'We Get Into a Lot of Things'
Colman Domingo portrays Jackson family patriarch Joe Jackson in the upcoming biopic
Colman Domingo believes the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic will give audiences a different perspective of the artist.
During an interview with Andy Cohen on Radio Andy, the Euphoria actor spoke about the upcoming movie titled Michael. Domingo, 54, stars in the film as the Jackson family patriarch, Joe Jackson.
Domingo told Cohen, 56, the biopic, which takes place over 30 years of the late musician's life, will tackle "a lot of things that are epic and monumental."
"I think the whole point of this biopic is to really humanize Michael and really show like the making of Michael and who he is, and so it deals with a lot of things," he shared.

The Oscar-nominated actor noted that the movie will deal with "controversial" aspects of Michael's life instead of excluding them.
"A lot of things that may even be like, controversial, you know what I mean? So, it deals with it, and it's got the family love and support, but they didn't get in the way of like really telling a compelling story," Domingo said, adding that when a family is involved in a project like that, it can change the narrative.

He continued: "We really show how this family built themselves, how they relate to each other and to the world and what the world has also created."

Elsewhere in the interview, Domingo praised Jaafar Jackson, Jermaine Jackson's son and Michael's nephew who stars as Michael in the movie. "Jaafar is exceptional," he said, praising him as a "once-in-a-lifetime talent."
"When I tell you, you'll think you'll be looking at AI, but no. You're actually just looking at this performer in the height of his talents, you know, giving love to the legacy that he stands on."

Domingo previously told PEOPLE about what he hopes audiences get out of his "complex version of Joe Jackson, who died in 2018.
“Right now I seem to be on the track of interrogating some of these real-life human beings," he said in February. "I want to find their humanity, I want to find their heart and their humor. It may go against public opinion sometimes, but I think that's my responsibility to find the complex version of these people.”
Michael is set to debut in theaters April 18, 2025.
