College student builds functional Batmobile from ‘The Dark Knight’

A Vietnamese college student is proving that comic book fans can never be too extra.

Nguyen Dac Chung is a 23-year-old architecture student in Hanoi who built a functioning replica of the Batmobile. While there have been numerous iterations of Batman’s iconic vehicle, Nguyen took inspiration from Christopher Nolan’s version from “The Dark Knight.”

“I got the idea to construct this car as a first-year student,” he told VnExpress International. “The car has a bold look and is eye-catching thanks to its all-black body.”

The life-sized vehicle measures 3.6 x 2.3 meters. Nguyen designed the Batmobile in 3D before actually building it using parts from the U.S. and South Korea. He even installed the vehicle control systems, breaks and lighting himself. Although, he’s still working on the interior. The student funded the $23,000 project himself.

“This product is a project that I have been cherishing for three years and I have been working on it for more than 10 months,” he told NewsFlare.

Footage shows the massive, militant vehicle parked on a regular street, making for quite the surreal scene. It has butterfly doors that lift open and a steering wheel with the Batman logo in it. The car is definitely a spectacle.

“I didn’t use a jet engine in the back like in the movie,” he explained. “My car only has the replicated shape and uses a motorbike exhaust pipe.”

Nguyen says it can travel up to 100 kilometers per hour and seats two people comfortably.

Well, anyone who can pull off a replica like this is certainly a superhero in their own right.
