Colin Firth’s team has confirmed the actor has split from his wife of more than two decades Livia Giuggioli.

A statement released today stated the pair had decided to go their separate ways but will remain ‘united in their love for their children’.

“Colin and Livia Firth have separated. They maintain a close friendship and remain united in their love for their children,” the statement read.

“They kindly ask for privacy. There will be no further comment”.

The pair have been married for 22 years, and share two boys, Luca, 18, and Matteo, 16.

After tying the knot in 1997, the two weathered a slew of scandals including an affair Livia embarked on with a childhood friend while the pair were temporarily sepearated, which unravelled into a tale of stalking and harassment.

Love affair turned ‘stalking’

Livia admitted to the fling with former childhood friend, Italian journalist Marco Brancaccia last year, but later reported him to police over alleged stalking and harassment.

A statement from Livia’s team was released at the time.

“A few years ago Colin and Livia privately made the decision to separate. During that time Livia briefly became involved with former friend Mr Brancaccia. The Firths have since reunited.”

"Subsequently, Mr Brancaccia carried out a frightening campaign of harassment over several months, much of which is documented. For obvious reasons, the Firths have never had any desire to make this matter public."

Mr Brancaccia countered the claims at the time, denying any wrongdoing.
