J.K. Rowling has sold her mansion

The 47-year-old author has sold her 19th century Edinburgh mansion, where she wrote four of the seven Harry Potter books, for over $3.6 million.

Real estate agent James Whitson confirmed the news to People magazine.

The Victorian mansion boasts eight bedrooms, as well as a garden and a detached office where Rowling reportedly penned her famous novels.

The home was sold to a Scottish businessman after being on the market for three weeks.

Whitson told the Scotsman newspaper of the property:

"This was an iconic house in Edinburgh; To be honest, it was a refreshing change to the normal house."

He added: "There was a bit of magic involved, which was quite fun to deal with."

According to the BBC, Rowling purchased the upstairs section of the home in 1999 for $681,000, shortly after the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and later bought the lower half of the mansion.
