Classic Hot Chocolate, Just Like Grandma Used to Make

Ingredients

  • 1/4 c.

    unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1/4 c.

    sugar

  • 4 c.

    whole milk

  • 2/3 c.

    semisweet chocolate chips

  • Pinch kosher salt

  • Whipped cream and candy canes, for serving

Directions

  1. Whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, and 1/2 cup milk in a medium saucepan. Cook over low heat, whisking, until cocoa powder is dissolved. Whisk in chocolate chips, salt, and remaining 3 1/2 cups milk. Cook, whisking occasionally, until chocolate is melted and milk is warmed through. Use a milk frother directly in the pot to make your hot chocolate creamier and richer, if desired. Serve garnished with whipped cream and candy canes.
