She is beloved for her refreshing honesty on a wide range of topics, including the reality of being an expectant mum.

Chrissy Teigen, who is carrying her third child, has revealed she had Botox injected into her neck to relieve pregnancy headaches.

In a post on Twitter, the 34-year-old model and food writer said: “I get really, really bad pregnancy headaches.”

She explained that she has received “neck muscle botox along with a crazy combo of beta blocker shots and radio wave frequency”.

The star – who is married to singer John Legend – noted: “Anyhow man it’s just so bad but I see the light finally.”

Her post has received more than 17,000 ‘likes’ with many revealing they had also received Botox for headaches.

In response to a fan’s comment, she added: “Jaw Botox for my grinding was a MUST for my regular headaches. You can also do behind the brow for migraines. Life changing.”

Botox, the brand name of botulinum toxin, is famously used on the face for its anti-ageing effects - by relaxing facial muscles to minimise the appearance of wrinkles.

However, it has been approved by the FDA in the US to ease chronic migraines – defined as headaches that last for more than four hours at a time and occur on more than 15 days each month.

According to the American Migraine Foundation, using Botox can reduce their intensity by 50%.

It is also available in the UK at specialist headache centres, according to the Migraine Trust.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommended in 2012 that it be made available on the NHS in England and Wales.

According to the NHS some women can suffer from headaches during pregnancy – and while they can be uncomfortable, they aren’t harmful to the baby.

They are most common in early pregnancy and usually stop during the last six months.

It is thought that Teigen – who is already mother to daughter Luna, four, and two-year-old son Miles – is around three months pregnant, and due to give birth circa March 2021.

Earlier this year, the star revealed she had undergone surgery to remove her breast implants.

In an Instagram post she explained: “They’ve been great to me for many years but I’m just over it.

“I’d like to be able to zip a dress in my size, lay on my belly with pure comfort! No biggie! So don’t worry about me! All good. I’ll still have boobs, they’ll just be pure fat.”
