Chris Perfetti lookalike Plasma wants to bring Drag Queen Story Hour to “Abbott Elementary” in “Drag Race” crossover
Plasma tells EW the hilarious plotline she'd love to pitch to Quinta Brunson: "I’m not trying to push a political agenda, I’m trying to offer you an idea."
Plasma might've graduated from RuPaul's Drag Race season 16, but she's already set her sights on enrolling at Abbott Elementary alongside her celebrity lookalike Chris Perfetti.
After Entertainment Weekly spoke to Perfetti about fan comparisons to Plasma at the 2024 SAG Awards, the New York City queen tells our Quick Drag podcast (below) she has a full character arc outlined for a potential guest-starring role on Abbott Elementary — and makes an impassioned pitch to creator-star Quinta Brunson to make it happen.
"Quinta, if you’re listening, big fan! I was brought up watching documentary-style comedy and it’s something so nuanced and specific and wonderful. I have so much respect for what you do," Plasma explains of the ABC sitcom, which follows a group of teachers at the titular elementary school. "I’m lucky enough to look exactly like your costar, Chris Perfetti, so I’m going to push my luck here and say that maybe there’s a Drag Queen Story Hour that makes its way to Abbott Elementary that I would love to be part of. I’m not trying to push a political agenda, I’m trying to offer you an idea."
But, Plasma doesn't stop there. Though she says there's "no development" on the pitch just yet, she hilariously reveals that she's intricately outlined how her character — which she envisions as a biological sibling to Perfetti's Jacob — would factor into the story.
"I have this strange plot line already cooking," Plasma says. "I’m Jacob’s younger brother, we haven’t spoken in a couple years, I show up for Drag Queen Story Hour, he doesn’t recognize me, I come to school as a visitor out of drag the next day, he’s like, 'What the hell are you doing here? I never want to see you again!' and I’m like, 'Bitch, I was here yesterday!'"
At the Feb. 24 SAG Awards, Perfetti reacted to viewers comparing him to Plasma — including a hilarious meme that sees an image of Jacob edited into one of Plasma's Drag Race confessionals — in a red carpet interview with EW.
"I should be so lucky as to be related to somebody as talented as Plasma is. I love that," he said at the time, also confirming that he's a big fan of the Emmy-winning reality competition series.
"It’s such an incredible show," Perfetti continued. "I’m usually many episodes behind, and this season I’m not, I'm right there chomping at the bit, waiting for Friday. I’m just so impressed with what they’re doing and I love the phenomenon that it has become. It’s food for the soul, that show."
RuPaul's Drag Race continues Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, while Abbott Elementary airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Listen to Plasma's full Quick Drag interview above.
