Chris Martin has shared that he eats one meal a day in a new interview.

The Coldplay frontman, 46, does not eat after 4pm and revealed that his extreme diet regime is inspired by Bruce Springsteen.

Martin recalled Springsteen being in “even more shape” than him at 73, when they met, as he discovered the secret to the US singing legend’s fit appearance.

“I actually don’t have dinner anymore. I stop eating at four and I learned that from having lunch with Bruce Springsteen,” Martin said on Conan O’Brien’s Needs A Friend podcast.

“I was lucky enough to go over there to lunch the day after we played Philadelphia last year. I was on a really strict diet anyway.

“But I was like, ‘Bruce looks even more in shape than me’ and Patti [Springsteen’s wife] said he’s only eating one meal a day. I was like, ‘Well, there we go. That’s my next challenge.”

The British singer jokingly added that his choice of meal is “flank of buffalo with a steroid sauce”.

Martin’s diet confession comes after ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow revealed she has “bone broth for lunch” in a recent podcast interview.

Paltrow, 50, received backlash for her concerning eating habits as she was accused by body positive activist and model Tess Holliday of “glorifying” eating disorders.

The Goop founder added that she also eats dinner early before having a “nice intermittent fast”.

Martin, who was married to Paltrow between 2003 and 2016, previously shared that he fasts like his ex-wife, taking the practice further by not eating for a full day.

“I fast once a week, yeah, one day a week,” he revealed in 2016.

“This guy said to me, ‘try not eating for a day, it will make your body feel healthier,’ and I did it and I found I could sing a bit better, and also I felt so grateful for food.”

In 2021, Martin admitted to not being a good cook and had not prepared a meal in a decade.

He told BBC Radio 2: “I’ve cooked twice in the last 10 years and both times the fire brigade came and I’d like to send a shout out to them in North London Fire Department who’ve saved me twice.

“The second time they came and said ‘have you been cooking again?’”
