Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is getting the remake treatment.

PEOPLE confirms that a reimagining of the well-loved 1968 musical fantasy is in the works, from Amazon MGM Studios and EON Productions. Development is still in the early stages, with a writer, director and cast all to be determined.

The original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang saw Dick Van Dyke lead as the quirky widowed inventor Caractacus Potts caring for his two children, Jeremy (Adrian Hall) and Jemima (Heather Ripley). Alongside the heiress to the Scrumptious candy empire, Truly Scrumptious (Sally Ann Howes), they repair an old racing car that has magic abilities. The quartet uses the magical car to embark on a harrowing adventure narrated by Caractacus.

The film was adapted from the 1964 children's novel Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang: The Magical Car, written by Ian Fleming. When the book was transformed into a film four years later, the screenplay was written by director Ken Hughes and children's author Roald Dahl. The film was produced by Albert "Cubby" Broccoli.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang also received a theatrical adaptation, premiering first in London in 2002 and again on Broadway in 2005. Broccoli's wife, Dana, also produced the Tony and Olivier-nominated stage version. Six new songs by the Sherman brothers were included in the theatrical adaptation, expanding on the track list of songs the pair contributed to the original film.

At this time, there are no further details on what actors are expected to appear in the project, nor is there a projected timeline. EON Productions and Amazon MGM's partnership has already brought the Bond franchise to the big screen, building on the companies' collaborations.
