Chipotle Unleashes First-Ever 'Wacky' Costumes With Spirit Halloween
Chipotle is expanding its Halloween presence from boo-ritos to a whole lineup of costumes for the spooktastic holiday.
Teaming up with Spirit Halloween for its first-ever costume drop, the fast casual restaurant unveiled several “wacky” onesie-type looks that will allow fans to take after “famous Chipotle memes.”
Starting Sept. 6, you can channel a water cup, to-go bag, burrito, fork or napkin.
All of the costumes—aside from the fork, which Instagram blogger markie_devo points out had “not a single fork of effort” put into it—feature brand logos and fonts that customers will immediately recognize.
Naturally, fans had a lot of thoughts about the five-costume collection, with one pointing out a clear miss by the chain: “No side of guac costume I guess bc that costs extra.”
Another recalled seeing a streamer donning the costume during a livestream, adding, “It’s a very funny costume in action 😆.”
Several comments saw the opportunity to take jabs at portion sizes, issuing complaints like “Should be 40% of a costume for full price,” and, “These are going to be crazy expensive and run small huh 😂.”
Meanwhile, one consumer was in disbelief, asking point-blank: “Is this satire? 🤣.”
It is, however, not satire, as the origin story began years ago when social media users started creating their own unique costume ideas, with Chipotle tapping into the viral trend with various comical body suits, eventually deciding to make them a reality.
"Our popular Halloween tradition, Boorito, began with a burrito-themed costume contest and now we're taking it to the next level with the launch of our first-ever costume collection in collaboration with Spirit Halloween," said Chris Brandt, Chief Brand Officer at Chipotle, in a press release. "In addition to these bodysuits, we will be treating fans to a scarily great offer next month."
"We're no strangers to memes at Spirit Halloween. Year after year, we are blown away by the passion and creativity we see from fans sharing their take on popular Spirit Halloween memes – and we're beyond thrilled to be teaming up with Chipotle to bring some of those creations to life," added Kym Sarkos, Executive Vice President at Spirit Halloween.
As for how much you’re going to be forced to dish out for the costumes, they will retail for $39.99 in the U.S. and Canada and come in sizes ranging from adult small to XL.
Costumes will be available online at the Spirit Halloween website and select locations in Chicago, Denver, Egg Harbor Township, N.J., Los Angeles, and New York, while supplies last.
