American singer Childish Gambino has cancelled his Australian and New Zealand leg of The New World tour.

In a statement sent to ticket holders, Gambino – also known as Donald Glover – told fans he had no choice but to scrap his upcoming visit to Australia and New Zealand as he continued to recover from surgery.

“Unfortunately, my path to recovery is taking longer than expected,” he said.

“The upcoming concerts in Australia and New Zealand are cancelled.

“One of the last things I’d ever want to do is disappoint my fans.

“I really appreciate the support you have shown and know that I will do what I can to give u (you) an exceptional experience when the time is right. Thank you.”

Ticketek and Frontier Touring has advised that refunds will automatically be made to purchasers and will appear in each purchaser account within 14-21 days.

The decision comes after Gambino cancelled the remainder of his North American, UK and European dates following a hospital visit in October.

“After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent,” he shared on X, formally known as Twitter.

“As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.”

Childish Gambino’s The New World tour was meant to kick off in Auckland on January 28 before he played six shows in Australia.

The Aussie leg of the tour included Gambino playing a show in Brisbane and Perth and two shows in both Melbourne and Sydney after ticket demand led to extra shows being added.
