Cher Declares She's 'Not a Cher Fan': 'I Just Never Liked My Voice That Much'
"If I had my choice, I probably would have another one, but I didn't get my choice. I got my mother's voice," said Cher in a new interview
If you ever hang out with Cher, maybe don't put her music on the playlist.
In a new cover story interview with PAPER, the Goddess of Pop revealed she's not a fan of her own music and doesn't like her own voice.
The topic arose when the 77-year-old "Believe" singer was speaking about her new album Christmas, her first festive body of work. While she's released dozens of projects before, she admitted she hasn't been fond of all of them.

"I've made so many albums, and some of the ones I thought were as good as I could like an album of mine weren’t hits. And then other ones that I was not that excited about [were]," said Cher, noting that her career has been a series of ups and downs in regards to success.
"So I like this album. I'm not a Cher fan, but I like doing it," she admitted. "When I listen to [Christmas], I think this worked out."
Cher then elaborated on what she doesn't like about her own catalog. "I just never liked my voice that much," she told PAPER. "If I had my choice, I probably would have another one, but I didn’t get my choice. I got my mother’s voice."

She explained that she finds her way of singing "weird" and doesn't enjoy some of its quirks.
"It doesn't sound like a man, it doesn't sound like a woman. I'm somewhere more in-between. I have this strange style," said Cher. "I do what you do when you can't hold a note: I don’t pronounce my Rs. I guess some consonants are hard to sing, so I just gotta leave them open."
Of course, many of Cher's fans would beg to differ. Throughout her career, she's achieved 33 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 — proving that her voice has many fans, despite how she feels about it.
Even decades of success, however, haven't changed her mind. "I never liked it very much. I mean, people seem to like it, and I'm happy as a clam, but I wouldn't have picked it," said Cher. "I liked it on my mother and it's definitely my mom's voice. My mom's is softer, mine is edgier — different, but the same, but I don't think I would have picked it."
