Charli XCX Thought Bowen Yang’s Impression Of Her On ‘SNL’ Was Very “Brat”

Charli XCX thought Bowen Yang’s impression of her on Saturday Night Live was very brat.

In a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the dance music artist was asked by the host if she saw the sketch, part of the Season 50 opener episode, as a “compliment, or were you just ticked off about it?”

“Oh no, no, no, I think SNL is iconic, and Troye [Sivan] and I, we had an inkling it was coming,” the singer, who is currently co-headlining the Sweat tour alongside Sivan, said. “We were very excited about it, and I love Bowen, and honestly, I think he did a great job. I was very impressed with the hair texture actually, I thought it was a really good wig. Yeah, it was good. It was cool.”

The Sept. 28 episode, which featured host Jean Smart and musical guest Jelly Roll, had Yang playing dress-up all night, as the SNL star portrayed J.D. Vance, viral pygmy hippo Moo Deng and, of course, Charli.

In the sketch, Yang cosplays as the Brit phenom, clad in all black with matching shades and a luscious wavy wig, all emulating the Grammy nominee. During “the talk talk show with charli xcx” (a play on the song “Talk Talk”), Yang dives into an explainer on what “brat” is by playing a game where concepts and objects are designated as brat (for example, Baron Trump going to NYU) or nat (NYU itself). Complete with brat signature green coloring the set, the sketch also features appearances from Troye Sivan (Sarah Sherman) and guests Susanne Bartsch (Smart), Kaitlan Collins (Chloe Fineman) and Jasmine Crockett (Ego Nwodim).
