Channel 7’s Mel McLaughlin stalker exposed from USB

The discovery of a USB stick at a fast food restaurant has prompted an investigation into a potential celebrity stalker.

The USB contained around 18 hours of unauthorised surveillance footage of Australian sports presenter Mel McLaughlin.

It was handed in at a McDonald’s in Mascot back in March and was then passed onto the police.

Police have been investigating other threats found on a Seven Network phone used by the presenter.

Mel has moved out of her North Shore home which was recently broken into.

The footage found includes Mel in a city mall with a colleague, driving, visiting relatives and at the cinema with children.

There is also video material filmed through the glass exterior of Seven Network’s Martin Place newsroom.

The stalker is allegedly a former associate of Mel’s and colleagues say the stalker is obsessed with her and also jealous of her new relationship with Ashley Westwood.

Ashley is a retired British League One soccer player and met the sports presenter in late-2015 while they were both working in India.

James Morrison, Seven Network Sydney’s news director, said in a statement: "Police have been involved in investigating a series of threats.”

“I am aware that police have spoken to a suspect several times and warned him.”

“Police have been great in helping Mel with security and are taking this very seriously,” James continued.

“The next step is to take out restraining orders to further protect her from the man involved.”
