For the first time in the maison’s near 80-year history, Celine is launching a beauty line. Announced at artistic and image director Hedi Slimane’s 'La Collection de l’Arc de Triomphe' showcase in Paris yesterday, Celine Beauté will launch this autumn with a single shade of lipstick, 'Rouge Triomphe'.

An expansion of Celine’s Haute Parfumerie collection, which arrived in 2019 to high praise, Le Rouge Celine lipstick line will expand in 2025 with 15 shades in total, including 'La Peau Nue' – a rosy nude which was worn by the models in the autumn/winter 2024 show (pictured here and available to watch below).

Naturally, the debut launch is an extravegant elevation of red lipstick – a timeless French beauty staple. The satin-finish formula is infused with a soft, ‘70s accord of rose and rice powder and comes dressed in minimalist art deco-inspired faceted gold casing, embossed with the maison’s couture monogram.

Beyond the lipsticks, each season new collections designed by Slimane will build on the Celine Beauté brand. Expect lip balms, mascaras, eyeliners, powders and cases as well as nail polishes.

Celine joins myriad other brands marrying their fashion strategies with beauty. While once dominated by the likes of Chanel, Dior, Givenchy and YSL, it's now rare to find a storied fashion house without a fragrance and beauty offering – from Prada which landed last August to Burberry's recent return following in the footsteps of Rabanne, Gucci, Hèrmes, Valentino, Dries Van Noten and more who have all become established in the space.

The demand makes sense. There's not only a natural synergy between fashion and beauty, but the diversification of a brand presents an opportunity for shoppers to buy into it for a fraction of the price. Not that these luxury beauty items come cheap, of course – and clearly we're willing to pay a premium for them. Given that the brand's trifecta of soaps cost £90, we imagine Le Rouge Celine lipsticks will set you back a lot more.
