Celebrities pay tribute to Luke Perry

Luke Perry perfectly played the heartbreaker on Beverly Hills, 90210 — the most well known of his many roles — and his sudden death at 52 as left his colleagues and fans around the globe heartbroken.

Perry’s spokesman confirmed his death on Monday, days after a massive stroke, and social media was immediately flooded with tributes to the actor, who had been starring in Riverdale since 2016.

There were sweet stories about working with him — or people saying they just wanted to be as cool as him. They all shared the similar sentiment — that he’s gone too soon.

Ian Ziering, Perry’s 90210 co-star, posted one of the sweetest ones. He wrote that he will “forever bask in the loving memories” they shared over the last three decades since they became megastars in the ’90s.

Meanwhile Molly Ringwald, who played his wife on Riverdale, said, “My heart is broken. I will miss you so much Luke Perry. Sending all my love to your family”.

Perry was surrounded by his children, Jake and Sophie, fiancée Wendy Madison Bauer and his former wife, Minnie Sharp, when he died on Monday.

“The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning,” his publicist Arnold Robinson said.

The actor had been hospitalised since last Wednesday, after a 911 call summoned medical help to his home in the Sherman Oaks section of Los Angeles after he suffered a massive stroke.

Perry had played construction company owner Fred Andrews, father of main character Archie Andrews, for three seasons on Riverdale, the CW series that gives a dark take on “Archie” comics.

A fourth season had been slated, however following the news of Perry’s death, the producers of Riverdale announced they will be shutting down production.

In a statement, they called Perry “everything you would hope he would be” — and that included “an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart” as well as a “true friend” to all.

Born and raised in rural Fredericktown, Ohio, Perry gained fame on Beverly Hills, 90210, which ran from 1990 to 2000.

Perry has had roles in a handful of films, including The Fifth Element, 8 Seconds and American Strays.

He appeared in HBO’s prison drama Oz and voiced cartoons like The Incredible Hulk and Mortal Kombat. In recent years he starred in the series Ties That Bind and Body of Proof.

The same day he was hospitalised, Fox TV announced that it would be running a six-episode return of 90210 that features most of the original cast, but Perry was not among those announced.
