Cecily Strong Is Engaged! “SNL” Alum Says Fiancé Proposed After 4 Years of Dating — but Spoiled His 'Surprise'
"You always said, ‘No one will ever love you and you will never get married' — you were wrong!" she joked to pal Seth Meyers
Cecily Strong is heading down the aisle!
The Saturday Night Live alumna dropped the news on Wednesday that she's engaged to be married her beau Jack, who popped the questioned in December after four years of dating.
"I got engaged," Strong, 40, told her former costar Seth Meyers during a visit to Late Night with Seth Meyers, while promoting her role in the Off-Broadway play Brooklyn Laundry.
"I know... You always said, ‘No one will ever love you and you will never get married' — you were wrong!" she joked to Meyers, who teased, "I am eating my words."
She went on to explain that Jack tried to surprise her, but accidentally spoiled the proposal when he showed her his cell phone.
“One day he was like, ‘I’m so inundated with emails and texts, look at this. ' And he showed me his phone, and the first text was from a friend that said, ‘How did it go?! Ring emoji,' " Strong recalled. "And then, I was like. ‘Oh no, should I?’ And he went, ‘Did you see that?’ And I was like, ‘I could try very hard to lie, but…’ So then I knew."

Strong has kept details about her romance out of the public eye, including Jack's full name.
The Schmigadoon! star first revealed the two were dating in an emotional first-person essay for Vulture published in April 2020. The comedian met Jack at a Christmas party in December 2019, a month before the death of her cousin, Owen.
"At first I thought it was so difficult to meet someone right as I was losing someone I loved so much," wrote Strong, before praising how Jack — whom she called "a gift to me from Owen" — was there for her during her difficult time. "I knew he'd have to be patient with me. He'd have to let me grieve. It would be easier not to even try during that process. But grieving for Owen was like nothing I'd ever experienced, and I promised Owen and myself to continue to let all that love be there along with the sadness."

Though Strong spoiled Jack's planned proposal, she said on Late Night that she encouraged her fiancé to pop the question whenever he wanted. "I was like, ‘Whenever you want to do it, that’ll be the surprise," she said.
But Strong couldn't wait. “I still then took that from him,” she lamented. “I had kind of a rough night in December, and I was like, ‘Can I just wear the damn ring now?’ So, that’s how we got engaged."
And the engagement mishaps only continued from there. When she got the ring she realized Jack had gotten her ring size wrong, something she takes the blame for. "I don’t know my ring size— I wear like every size ring. So, he took one of those, and it was five sizes too big," she said.
"I was wearing it on my index finger for a long time. Not as a statement, it just would’ve fallen off," joked Strong.
Late Night with Seth Meyers airs weeknights (at 12:35 a.m.) on NBC.
