Disturbing CCTV shows woman push friend into reservoir before tragic drowning

WARNING - DISTRESSING CONTENT: Disturbing CCTV of a woman being pushed into a reservoir by a friend has gone viral in China as police confirmed both women drowned.

The two women can be seen standing at the edge of a rural reservoir in the Chinese city of Nanjing in the eastern province of Jiangsu when the woman dressed in orange bends down to tie her shoelace.

As she does so, the woman in black steps behind her and forcefully pushes her into the water, with both women falling in.

The woman in orange can be seen struggling as the woman in black holds her down.

After the video quickly circulated online, Lishui Bureau of Nanjing Public Security Bureau confirmed on Saturday the incident occurred on Wednesday with an investigation launched on Thursday, Chinese publication The Paper reported.

Both women died in the incident.

Photos appeared online of authorities retrieving the women’s bodies with police divers in operation.

Police say details of the incident will be released in due course and that the woman who pushed her companion had been suffering from depression and had been prescribed medication.

The two women are reportedly former colleagues.

The video has been shared widely via news sites on Chinese Twitter-like social media site Weibo, with the video receiving over 500 million views to date.

Users widely speculated on what had caused the incident, while many dismissed police’s attempt to link the actions of the woman to her mental health.
