Catherine Zeta-Jones on her 25-year age gap

With an impressive 18-years of marriage behind them, Catherine Zeta-Jones, 49, and Michael Douglas, 74, have become one of Hollywood’s longest standing power couples.

She recently revealed that the secret to their long-lasting relationship comes down to their “very open and honest” communication, not only between each other but also their two kids, Dylan, 18, and Carys, 15.

And while the couple’s 25-year age gap certainly attracted skepticism in their early days, Catherine has been adamant that it’s never been a problem for her.

“When my mother was telling me about men and telling me the facts of life, she never actually put an age bracket on it,” she told E News last year., “And it’s so funny, because Michael and my parents are the same age.”

“Historically, older men and younger women have been together… So my parents, whenever they see us together, never even question that there was a 25-year age difference,” she continued.

Speaking in a more recent interview on NBC’s TODAY, Catherine revealed that her parents – Patricia and David – have been her biggest inspiration after their marriage has been going strong for over five decades.

“My mother and father are married for 52 years and they’re a wonderful blueprint for me because I’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly with them, and they’re still going strong,” she said on the show.

Then getting candid about her own relationship, the star admitted that there have certainly been hard times, but that she and Michael have always made the effort to push past them.

“First of all, I’m so happy that we’ve made it to be 20 years together. It’s been great. But I think it’s just unfathomable to me that you would be with one person for 18 years and things are not rosy every day. You know? They’re just not,” she said.

“You’ve got to be open and honest and share things that probably people at the drug store wouldn’t share over the counter,” she said.
