Carrie Bickmore has experienced a very uncharacteristic on-air gaffe while introducing model-of-the-moment Adut Akech.

The Project host made the blunder during Tuesday night’s episode, just one day after Adut hit headlines for being mistaken for another model by WHO magazine.

But when the 19-year-old joined the panel, she was met with a humble version of the veteran presenter.

“I just told her I stuff up all the time! See! I just did!” Carrie told the studio audience.

Moments earlier, the popular TV star proved her approachability to the likely-nervous young model, stumbling on her on-air introduction.

“Our next guest, Adut Akech is fast becoming one of the world's most...” Carrie began while appearing to trip over every word in the sentence.

After both she, co-host Waleed Aly and Adut all broke out in laughter following the misstep, Carrie was able to finish the introduction with slightly more ease.

“One of the world's most... world's most... recognisable faces!”

Despite the somewhat awkward welcome, Adut was seen was then seen smiling before placing a hand on her chest in gratitude at the host’s warmth.

Just one day earlier, her relationship with the media was a very different one, when WHO magazine pictured another African-Australian model, Flavia Lazarus, in an article about Adut.

Angry and disrespected

She later took to Instagram to discuss her feelings towards the situation, saying the blunder “would’ve not happened to a white model.”

“This has upset me, has made me angry, it has made me feel very disrespected and to me is unacceptable and inexcusable under any circumstances,” Adut wrote.

“Not only do I personally feel insulted and disrespected but I feel like my entire race has been disrespected too and it is why I feel it is important that I address this issue.

“Whoever did this clearly the thought that was me in that picture and that’s not okay.”
