Carrie Bickmore breaks down while speaking about late husband
Not a day goes by when Carrie Bickmore doesn’t think of her late husband Greg Lange, who lost his battle with brain cancer in December 2010.
During her latest television interview for ABC’s Anh’s Brush With Fame, set to air on Wednesday night, the 37-year-old TV star understandably breaks down as she’s overcome with emotion while reminiscing on her relationship with Greg.
The Project host explains the ‘greatest thing’ the couple did was have a son Ollie, who now as a 10-year-old reminds her of Greg every day.
“One of the things we chose to do was have our son Ollie,” Carrie explains to Anh Do.
“It’s probably the greatest thing we ever did together. He’s a gorgeous boy and he’s so much like him in so many ways,” she continues, struggling to fight back tears.
“This sounds so weird but often I’ll see him in the shower, the back of his body and his frame is just a miniature version of Greg. They’re very, very similar.
“It was a great thing for both of us to have him and have that focus.”
Carrie and Greg welcomed Ollie back in 2007, three years before Greg tragically passed away in 2010.
Speaking of his diagnosis, Carrie said she was absolutely shocked and dumbfounded when the pair discovered Greg had a brain tumour in 2001.
“I just didn’t even know anyone who’d had cancer, I didn’t know anything about brain cancer and neither did he,” Carrie explained.
“It just completely threw everything we knew, everything we had planned, everything we thought, it just threw everything on its head. It was the start of an incredibly hard journey.”
When Anh asked if Greg ever spoke about the possibility of dying, Carrie said that wasn’t his focus.
“We didn’t speak a lot about what might happen,” she explained. “We were about hope and positivity.
“Sometimes you can be defined by diagnosis and that’s the wrong way to go because I think treatments change, science changes along the way and what you’re told one way can be completely different the next week.”
In May 2015, Carrie chose to dedicate her TV Week Gold Logie speech to her late husband, and encouraged the nation to purchase a beanie in support of her Beanies 4 Brain Cancer foundation.
Watching in the audience was her partner Chris Walker, whom she shares three-year-old daughter Evie with.
In June Carrie announced the couple are expecting another child together.
Carrie’s interview will air on Anh’s Brush With Fame on Wednesday August 8 at 8pm on ABC and ABC iview.
