Cardi B Said She Spends $3 Million In A Month And Got Reaaaal Candid About Her Money Situation
Cardi B responded to criticism of her brand deal with Shein.
Yesterday, Cardi posted a video on Instagram and TikTok modeling and praising a series of faux fur coats from the fast fashion giant, such as a calf-length gray 100% polyester number currently retailing for $75.84.
Some of the comments were critical, questioning why the celebrity would partner with a company known for its cheap goods:
However, others came to Cardi's defense, stating that the rapper had long worked with more affordable clothing brands:
However, it was the insinuation that Cardi needed the Shein deal to stay financially afloat that prompted her to record a segment on X Spaces. "People say that I’m surviving on Shein deals and brand deals," she began. "Y'all like to talk about tour deals a lot. I want to let y’all know I could wake up tomorrow, sign a contract, and have half of $65 million — or half of $70 million – in my bank."
Adding that she was offered that much on her "off year," she continued, "I don't want to take tour deals until I announce my album. When I announce my new album I know they're going to up it. You've got to move smart like a bitch. You can't act like you're hungry, especially when you're not."
"I'm not surviving, baby. Spend like about $3 million in a month," Cardi said, later adding that she's waiting for an $80 or $100-million deal. "As long as my bills is paid, I can buy whatever the fuck I want whenever the fuck I want. Shit, I can go spend $500,000 on a fucking car tomorrow. I could buy me a $300,000 watch tomorrow. Bitch, I could buy your mother."
When told she didn't need to prove herself, she replied, "I gotta do it for me and I gotta do it for my fans. Because then y'all be trying to throw it in my fans' face. I do it because I want to, not because I need it. Ain't nobody going broke over here."
"I'm a female rapper. I'm not a fucking Disney artist. This is what we talk about. We talk about money, we talking about bread, we talk about diamonds, we talk about whips, we talk about houses," Cardi added, later noting that she spends about $20,000 whenever she goes to the club. "The shit I rap about is true."
When asked to pay a user's student debt, she replied, "Fuck your student loan bitch. I had wait 'til I got fucking famous to fucking pay mine. You know how many people I take care of in real life? I'm literally paying six people's rent right now."
Later, she added, "Yes, if a fucking company send me $700,000 to do a fucking video I'm going to do it. I'm going to take it. Easy. Let me do that shit in my fucking house, in my basement [...] You know I love money."
Cardi followed up with a screenshot showing that she had been offered $1 million per show on a tour this September:

It's worth emphasizing that Shein has been the subject of numerous ethical and environmental concerns.
