Cara Delevingne to star as Sally Bowles in 'Cabaret' opposite Luke Treadaway
There's no doubt that the multi-award-winning revival of Cabaret at the Playhouse Theatre has been one of the hottest tickets of the last few years, since it debuted in 2021. Now, there's even more reason to score a seat: Cara Delevingne is set to make her stage debut when she joins the cast next month as Sally Bowles, joined by actor Luke Treadaway as the Emcee.
“There are no words to explain the excitement I have to return home to make my stage debut in such an iconic role,” said Only Murders In The Building star Delevingne, who began her acting career with a role in the 2012 film adaptation of Anna Karenina by Joe Wright, and now lives in LA. Her most notable roles include Margo Roth Spiegelman in the romantic mystery film Paper Towns, the Enchantress in Suicide Squad, and Laureline in Luc Besson's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
Now a self-proclaimed eco-activist as well as actress, former top model Delevingne has walked for Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Stella McCartney, to name a few. “I am so inspired by the brilliant actors who have played Sally in past productions around the world and in this one in the West End,” she said. “I cannot wait to be a part of this brilliant cast and production.”
Directed by Rebecca Frecknall, the play – set in Berlin during the Jazz Age, and focusing on the hedonistic nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub – initially starred Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley in the lead roles, but has gone on to showcase the talents of Self Esteem (AKA Rebecca Lucy Taylor), Aimee Lou Wood, Maude Apatow and Jake Shears.
Treadaway, who graduated from Lamda in 2006, has starred in Saint Joan and War Horse at the National Theatre, and won an Olivier award in 2013 for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. “I can’t wait to become a member of the Kit Kat Club and join this extraordinary production,” he said of his latest role. “It’s a huge thrill to be asked to take this on and I’m very excited to get started.”
The pair will join Michael Ahomka-Lindsay as Clifford Bradshaw, Beverley Klein as Fraulein Schneider and Teddy Kempner as Herr Schultz in the production, which is booking until February 2025. Redmayne hasn't given up his role entirely, however – he'll be playing the Emcee in a Broadway production of Cabaret from April, opposite Gayle Rankin as Sally.
