Camilla’s ghostly encounter at Charles’ haunted house
She’s the no-nonsense Duchess who’s the last person you’d expect to get spooked by ghosts.
But Prince Charles’ wife Camilla has spoken out about her terror over an eerie encounter at Dumfries house, the stately Scottish home belonging to her husband.
Speaking about her experience in a new documentary The Real Camilla, the 70-year-old was left so terrified by the other-worldly experience, she refused to move into the property, which remained dilapidated and neglected until Prince Charles began renovations in 2007.
“It was so sad and un-lived in, unloved and neglected,” Camilla revealed in the documentary.
“And it had a really eerie feel about it. There was definitely a ghost. Without a shadow of a doubt.”
Camilla recalls feeling the presence of a ghost the first time she stepped foot in the house, and was never able to get past it.
“I remember the first time I walked up the steps, got into the hall and I thought I can’t go any further,” she said.
“I literally froze. If my hair could stand on end, it would have done.”
The run-down property was bought for a whopping $82 million, with Prince Charles putting in $35 million of his own money to help fund the project.
After an extensive restoration, Camilla explains whatever bad spirits were lurking in the property seemed to be gone.
“Whatever was there had disappeared,” she said in the documentary. “The whole thing seemed to be smiling again.”
