Mamie Laverock's Family Plans On Taking Legal Action After Five-Story Fall
  • Hallmark's When Calls the Heart actress Mamie Laverock was on life support after falling five stories from a balcony walkway.

  • Her body is "shattered" but she's "fighting hard," her family says.

  • The family plans on taking legal action against the hospital where she fell.

Mamie Laverock's family says there will be "accountability" for the actress' fall.

On May 26, the Hallmark actress fell five stories from a balcony walkway while being treated for a "medical emergency" at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. The 19-year-old has since undergone four surgeries and was previously on life support.

While speaking with the Los Angeles Times, Mamie's mother Nicole Rockmann shared that the family plans on pursuing a "negligence-type case" against St. Paul's.

"We have a case," she told the paper on May 30. "All we care about is that Mamie can make a recovery and that she’s alive and that she’s fighting and that she’s strong."

"It’s unbelievable that she’s with us," she added. "This is an absolute miracle and there will be accountability."

Nicole clarified that her daughter's accident was not "intended" and was not a suicide attempt. The When Calls the Heart actress opened her eyes for the first time since the fall and briefly squeezed her mother's hand, Nicole shared in the interview.

A spokesperson confirmed to the Times that "an incident happened" at the hospital, but couldn't comment on details due to patient privacy.

"In cases related to patient safety, an internal critical incident review is conducted to determine exactly what happened and to make recommendations for improved patient safety," they added. "Our hearts go out to the patient, family, and all affected by this event, and we offer our best wishes for a full recovery."

In a recent update to the actress' GoFundMe, Nicole and Mamie's father, John Laverock, said that Mamie's body has been "shattered" but she is on the road to recovery.

"Mamie is 'doing well' comparatively to when she arrived," they said. "Doing well because she has survived these extensive surgeries. She is enduring tremendous pain and continues to not give up."

"Our daughter loves her life and loves her family and is fighting hard everyday," they finished off the statement.

News of Mamie's accident first broke on May 26, when her family updated a GoFundMe page detailing her hospital stay. Mamie was previously being treated for a "medical emergency," but then fell while in St. Paul's care.

The site states that Mamie "was escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway, from which she fell five stories." They added, "She sustained life threatening injuries, has undergone multiple extensive surgeries, and is currently on life support."

The 19-year-old's incident followed a two-week hospitalization in Winnipeg, Canada, for "intensive treatment" after experiencing a "medical emergency," according to the GoFundMe page.

Mamie was then transferred to St. Paul's in Vancouver, where she began healing. At the time, her parents said she was "alive and showing signs of improvement." A little over two weeks following her initial hospitalization, the actress fell off the balcony.

Hallmark Media provided a statement about Mamie's incident to Variety. "We are deeply saddened to hear the news about Mamie. As a beloved member of our When Calls the Heart community, we wish her and her family peace, comfort, and many prayers during this difficult time."

Mamie has received an outpouring of support from fans and fellow co-stars since the announcement of her accident. Co-star Mitchell Kummen asked for prayers on X (formerly Twitter). "Please pray for my friend Mamie. We need a miracle and the power of prayer and love," he wrote.

When Calls The Heart star Erin Krakow posted a screenshot of the GoFundMe campaign on Instagram. "💔 I just donated. If you have the means to do so, I hope you will too. Link in bio," she wrote in the caption.

The actress' on-screen mom, Johannah Newmarch, shared the family's GoFundMe page on X, writing, "I love this family, my heart is broken. A devastating time for all who care for Mamie. Please help if you can. They need all the support they can get to make it through this 🙏❤️ #hearties."

Loretta Walsh, who plays Florence Blakeley in the Hallmark series, posted the family's fundraiser on Instagram, too. "Please donate and share if you can. Mamie and her family need our support. Link in bio. Thank you ❤️," the caption reads.

Fans commented on the castmates' posts to share their support for Mamie. "This is so sad. Praying for Mamie and her family, and hoping she can recover and get the help she needs. 💔🙏🏻," one person wrote. "This is so heartbreaking. My thoughts are with Mamie and her family," someone else commented.

The details of Mamie's medical emergency are unclear. More than 500 people have donated to the GoFundMe page, which has raised over $30,000 CAD so far.
