Burger King throws shade at McDonald’s while responding to customer complaints

Burger King in Denmark is not pulling any punches in its quest to trump McDonald’s as the world’s best fast food chain.

On Sept. 24, Burger King’s European chain shared an approximately one-minute campaign ad in which it responded to customer complaints on McDonald’s Facebook page.

“Customer service should be fit for a king,” the video begins. “And while we’re not perfect, we do our best to help everyone — even our old friends.”

The clip then shows a quick scroll of McDonald’s page, which is flooded with user comments.

“For years, burger lovers have been left hanging, waiting for an answer,” the video continues. “But, hey, that’s what friends are for.”

In one example, a McDonald’s customer claimed that they had waited two hours waiting for their food. Burger King’s response?

“Well, everyone can have a slow day in fast food. Here’s a quick Whopper,” it replied, including a link to a free order of its signature burger.

Another customer posted that they had only gotten one bun on their Big Mac.

“Big Mac convertible?” Burger King wrote. “How innovative. Here’s a two-bun Whopper.”

And, in a stinging message clearly directed toward McDonald’s, Burger King noted in its video that it “made sure that everyone got a reply.”

“That’s the least we could do,” Burger King wrote.

The fast food giant’s video has since received nearly 10,000 views and plenty of comments from Facebook users. One user even tried to get another burger chain to join in on the fun.

“Wendy’s you guys gonna sit back and let this happen,” the user jokingly wrote.

According to Crain’s Chicago Business, Burger King’s Danish chain partnered with ad agency Uncle Grey to highlight its 48-hour customer response time.

“Customer service is a big part of the entire guest experience and we haven’t been doing a good enough job in taking care of our guests online,” Daniel Schroeder, the marketing director for Burger King Sweden and Denmark, told the publication. “When addressing this, we realized there are even more burger fans out there that deserve a reply. We did what we can to help out, hoping some flame-grilled Whopper love can help make things better again.”
