Bunnings is something of an Australian cultural institution, the hardware superstore enjoying legions of dedicated fans and unprecedented notoriety around their humble Saturday sausage-sizzle offerings.
Now lovers of the superstore can spend even more time in Bunnings’ hallowed aisles, with construction on a new Bunning’s hotel underway.
Planned for 2021, the hotel is a partnership between the hardware store and hotel chain, Mercure.
Construction got underway in January 2020 on the building in the Melbourne suburb of Doncaster.
Luxury stay above Australia’s favourite store
The complex will feature a double story Bunnings on the ground with the sleek accommodation on top, giving guests easy access to all their DIY needs.
The building is projected to cost $70 million, with 183 rooms designed to be in spitting distance of the area’s local Westfield shopping centre, and now a hop, skip and jump from any tool they could wish for.
The hotel’s website promises guests access to a restaurant, bar, outdoor dining area, fitness centre, and a rooftop swimming pool.
The hotel will be the first ever to rest on the shoulder of Bunnings, literally and figuratively, as Accor Pacific Chief Operating Officer, Simon McGrath told trade publication Hotel Management.
“We are delighted to commence construction on this flagship Mercure in the heart of Doncaster – our first-ever hotel built atop a Bunnings Warehouse,” McGrath said.
With the hotel set to open in 2021, all you lovers of a luxury stay and the budget DIY superstore have plenty of time to get your closest pals together and start planning your dream holiday.
