'It's nicer than our actual house': Mum's epic Bunnings cubby house transformation

It’s not everyday a kid’s cubby house gives us home renovations inspiration but one mum has done such an amazing job transforming this Bunnings playhouse, that people have said it’s nicer than their own houses.

Rebecca Brown spent the last few months planning out how the cubby house would look and after 15 hours of painting and numerous trips to her local Bunnings, the results are plain to see.

The mum told Yahoo Lifestyle she bought the cubby second hand from Facebook marketplace for $200 and decided to completely renovate it for her son’s first birthday.

“I don’t own my own home so I used the opportunity to really create something I would want to live in and got a lot of inspiration from Pinterest,” Rebecca said.

She picked up the paint, hardware, mouldings, bench top, ship bell and fixings from Bunnings, along with some artificial flowers from both Bunnings and Spotlight.

Rebecca handmade the bookshelves using a beech panel and dowel from Bunnings and she also handmade the mini rainbow.

A hanging basket and doormat from Kmart finished the place off, along with an adorable coffee menu which she bought at Officeworks.

After joking she made ‘at least 1.57 million trips to Bunnings’, Rebecca reckons the whole cost of the renovation came to about $350 in supplies.

Not only did she get to see the smile on her son’s face when he saw his beautiful new playhouse, but Rebecca also got to upskill, by using a lot of new power tools like a jigsaw.

As for her son, Rebecca said he absolutely loves the cubby house.

“He really likes books so as soon as I put the shelves up he was straight in there,” she said.
