Outrage over cost of Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's $5.2 million wedding

Brookyln Beckham is a married man after the 23-year-old son of David and Victoria Beckham, wed actress and billionaire heiress, Nicola Peltz, 27, in an incredibly lavish ceremony on Saturday.

Nicola’s parents Nelson and Claudia Peltz, who are estimated to be worth a whopping $2.45 billion, were the ones to foot the bill for the luxe affair which is said to have cost them AU$5.2 million (US$3.9 million).

Hosted at Nelson and Claudia’s $130 million oceanfront estate in Florida, the newlyweds were able to save on venue hire and instead spent their exorbitant wedding budget on details such as a flower-adorned chuppah with cascading orchids, an elevated aisle flanked on either side by water and floating flowers, and $350 bottles of Bollinger that were apparently free flowing after the ceremony.

The bride wore two gowns, the first of which was designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino, and included a little evil eye talisman that was stitched into the dress with blue thread.

The guest list was reportedly 600 strong and included many big name celebs including Gigi Hadid, Serena and Venus Williams, Nicole Ritchie, Eva Longoria, Gordon Ramsay, Spice Girls Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm, and Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen.

The entertainment line-up was just as star-studded with Marc Anthony reportedly performing a number of songs during the ceremony, and DJ Fat Tony and Snoop Dogg doing sets during the reception.

Famous illusionist David Blaine, is said to have entertained guests during the cocktail hour while it’s been reported that Bill Clinton’s former chef, Theirry Isambert, was responsible for the food the guests enjoyed on the night.

Outrage over lavish spend

While attendees were sure to have enjoyed the opulent celebration, people on Twitter have been angered by the millions of dollars spent on a single weekend of partying when the world is facing so many economic and humanitarian crises.

“Doesn't it cross their minds that all that money could save lives in Ukraine. Beyond contempt,” one person wrote, while another commented, “Imagine a £3M wedding while Ukraine war continues.”

“Something grotesque about this wedding. Brooklyn has no job. Barely 20 years old. Wasting all this money,” was another remark.

A fourth person added, “What a waste of money on a self-indulgent event! They couldn't had a small do and asked guests to donate to charity. This really is poor timing with the cost of living crisis etc!”

However, others jumped to the couple’s defence saying they were free to spent their money as they please.

People did report that in his speech, Nicola’s father Nelson asked that donations to support Ukraine be made instead of gifts to the couple.
