Britney engaged

The pop star took to Instagram to share the happy news on Sunday evening (US time) and show off her sizeable diamond engagement ring.

In the video, which appears to be taken inside the music icon's home, Iranian-American actor and model Sam asks Britney, "Do you like it?"

"Yes!" the 39-year-old replies excitedly while showing off the ring.

Over on his account, Sam, 27, posted a tongue-in-cheek photo of the pair sharing a kiss while Britney displays her ring to the camera.

He captioned the pic simply using a king and queen emoji.

Prior to sharing the announcement, Sam teased some 'big news' in a cryptic post to his Instagram Stories.

"Biggest news... Can't wait to share," he wrote.

Sam's account 'hacked'

Sam may have almost blown the surprise on Friday (US time) when pictures of a ring that look suspiciously like an engagement ring appeared on his Instagram Stories.

The ring featured a huge solitaire diamond and was engraved with the word "lioness," Sam's nickname for Britney, which sent fans into a frenzy.

In an unexpected twist, Sam deleted the ring images and quickly posted a follow-up message claiming his account had been hacked.

"Account got hacked and was photoshopped — calm down everyone!" he wrote.

But perhaps fans were on the money with their hunch that Sam was about to get down on one knee.

After all, Sam was recently spotted browsing the bling at Cartier in Beverly Hills, according to TMZ.

And earlier in September, a source close to the couple told Page Six that the couple was keen to get married.

"Britney and Sam are not engaged yet, but he has been talking about popping the question more and more lately," the source said.

"Sam wants to spoil Britney with a very special, over-the-top and meaningful proposal when the time is right. He dreams of one day becoming a dad too, and Britney, of course, has always wanted to have more kids, especially now that hers are getting older."

This will be Britney's third wedding after she tied the knot with childhood friend Jason Alexander in Las Vegas in January 2004. The marriage was annulled after 55 hours.

In September 2004 she wed dancer Kevin Federline but they divorced in 2007. Britney and Kevin share two children together, Jayden James Federline, 15, and Sean Preston Federline, who turns 16 on September 14.

Brit and Sam met on the set of her music video for "Slumber Party" in 2016 when Sam was starring as her mysterious love interest.

It's been an eventful year for Britney, whose father Jamie Spears agreed to relinquish control over her finances, career and life as a whole after 13 years.

Jamie announced he would step down from his long-time role as conservator of his daughter's estate back in August after efforts from Britney and her legal team to have him removed.

He has controlled her affairs since she suffered a mental health breakdown in 2008.
