Britney Spears has broken her silence and hit out at the “out of control rumours” surrounding her welfare and decision to seek help from a mental health facility.

The 37-year-old shared a video to her Instagram in which she told fans “all is well” and she would be back “very soon”.

“I wanted to say hi, because things that are being said have just gotten out of control,” the singer also wrote alongside the clip.

“There’s rumours, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said.”

She told her fans not to “believe everything you read and hear” before asking for privacy.

“Your love and dedication is amazing, but what I need right now is a little bit of privacy to deal with all the hard things that life is throwing my way,” she added.

Britney was spotted for the first time in weeks as she left the Montage hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on Sunday with boyfriend Sam to spend Easter with her family.

Sam could be seen walking in front of the singer, with his arm protectively shielding a dishevelled-looking Britney.

But he has also since spoken, insisting the singer is doing well and promised she would be "back soon".

"She's doing great. Thank you for your concern. Thank you very much,” he told TMZ.

A source told ET that Britney was still in treatment, but was finding it hard to be away from her sons, Sean, 13, and Jayden, 12.

"Britney’s career, caring for her children and the weight of her father’s illness, has been far too much for her," the source said.

"Despite taking time off from performing she couldn't handle the stress. She needed not only down time, but she decided she needed professional help."

Last week Britney’s mum, Lynne Spears, sparked concern for her daughter’s welfare, after she ‘liked’ comments calling for the singer to be given back her freedom.

The singer is believed to have admitted herself into a mental health facility earlier this month, after becoming “distraught” over her father Jamie Spears’ ongoing health battle, which has led him to undergo two major surgeries after his colon ruptured in November.

A #FREEBRITNEY hashtag began to trend online, with fans of the star speculating that she is being held against her will.

It started on the Instagram page, Britney’s Gram, where they claimed to have information stating Britney didn’t check herself into the facility.

In January, Britney announced she was putting her Vegas run of 'Britney: Domination' at the Park MGM resort on hold until further notice due to her dad's health, which has seen him undergo two major surgeries after his colon ruptured in November.

"I don't even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show 'Domination',” she wrote at the time.

“I've been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it's important to always put your family first.

"And that's the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalised and almost died. We're all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him."

Her management added: "Everything is on hold right now until [her father] Jamie is better. But once he is, she will resume working on the album with Justin. Right now, she's taking some time off to deal with these family issues."
