A bride has voiced her shock and frustration after finding out what her mother-in-law planned to wear on the big day.

Despite having suggested choosing something dark navy, green, or grey, and conservative, the mother-in-law ended up buying something very, very different.

“This is what she ended up buying,” the angry bride posted on Reddit, alongside an image of said dress.

It is gold with gold embellishments and gold threading,” she wrote. “The whole dress is sparkly. When she showed it to me I was absolutely shocked and I wasn’t very happy with her choice of dress.”

Revealing that by comparison her actual wedding dress is rather simple with some lace and satin embellishments, the bride wanted to know if the dress her soon-to-be MIL had chosen was inappropriate.

“Has anyone had this experience before? Any advice,” she asked.

“I did tell her in the most diplomatic way possible that her dress is ‘not suitable for the function’. She grabbed the dress out of my hands, stuffed it in the cupboard and gave me the silent treatment.”

She said she did bring it up with her fiancé, but when he brought it up with his mother she seemed to just laugh it off. Now she thinks her only option is to be ‘passive aggressive’ and tease her about ‘what other people might say’.

Not overreacting at all. That’s a wedding dress or a super fancy prom dress,” was one comment.

Totally inappropriate. I would tell her, that there is no wearing that dress at your wedding. Remind her of your guidelines and insist that she gets a dress in a suitable colour,” another person wrote.

“That would look ridiculous on any middle-aged woman, who was not a bride or going to a formal ball. What was your MIL thinking,” another shocked user commented.
