Bride Refuses Stepmom’s Request to Bring a Cooler with Wine to Her Wedding: ‘She Came Unglued and Stomped Off’

A bride is questioning whether she is in the wrong for refusing her stepmother’s request to bring her own wine to her wedding.
The 29-year-old bride shared in a post on Reddit's popular Am I the A------? forum that it all began when her stepmother asked about the alcoholic beverages being served at her upcoming wedding — since she and the bride’s father and friends were “very particular about the type of Chardonnay they like.”
According to the bride, she told her stepmother that she was planning to “surprise” her dad, who had “contributed a generous amount to the wedding,” with “a nice bottle or two of Chardonnay” from their wedding venues specialty wine menu to “have just for them.”
She said that her stepmother then asked whether “there would be enough for her friends,” which the bride say no since the bottles were $80 a piece. This prompted the woman to ask if she “could bring their own” and suggested bringing a “cooler with a few bottles.”
“I told her that it was a pretty nice venue and she’d feel uncomfortable doing so — would she do this for my cousin's wedding (which was super nice) we went to a few months ago?,” the bride inquired, adding that she also told her stepmother that the venue wouldn’t allow it as outside alcohol was not permitted inside.
“She totally came unglued and stomped off,” the bride recalled.
She further explained that her stepmother’s words made it seem like her wedding “is going to be cheap” and that her stepmother’s friends are “very well off and won’t want to drink the crap wine we’re serving.”

Several people backed the bride up in the comments, noting that it isn't even a possibility since bringing in outside alcohol would violate the contract she signed with the venue.
Others suggested that the woman tell her stepmother to order extra bottles off their wine list herself. One person wrote, “I am sure they will be happy to oblige her at $80 a bottle. At that price I am sure her friends will be satisfied, and your step mom won't be lugging a cooler like she's off to a beer garden party.....”
Another said, “She can pay to add more bottles to the bar contract or she can stfu. Unbelievably rude to drag cooler of your preferred wine to someone else's wedding (unless byob coolers is the wedding vibe!)."
