Bride Bakes 7 Cakes for Her Wedding 48 Hours Before Nuptials: See the Stunning Sweets! (Exclusive)
"The cakes turned out better than anything I could have imagined and it felt so special that I could be so proud of myself on my wedding day," the bride tells PEOPLE
Lucy Jane Cooper Arnold and Oliver Cooper Arnold got married in London on Dec. 7, 2024
Because she's a baker, the bride decided to make herself not just one wedding cake, but seven. Each cake had a different flavor and they were completed just two days before the wedding.
"It is something I will always look back on and feel like I really achieved something different for our day," Lucy tells PEOPLE. "The effort, stress and worry was 100% worth it!"
It's ambitious enough to bake and decorate one wedding cake, but an English bride went above and beyond by making herself seven cakes just days before her nuptials.
Lucy Jane Cooper Arnold (née Flynn), 32, tied the knot with Oliver Cooper Arnold, 31, at Chelsea Town Hall, followed by a reception at No. Fifty Cheyne in London on Dec. 7, 2024. Ahead of their big day, Lucy decided that as a baker, she should be the one to make their wedding cake.
"I am a bit of a control freak, so the thought of delegating this task elsewhere would have only caused me sleepless nights! I can imagine myself being a bridezilla to that poor baker!" Lucy tells PEOPLE. "Weddings are also so expensive, and I know what I charge for my work."
Lucy has been baking her entire life, and began selling cakes professionally in 2016. The buttercream specialist behind Lucy Jane Cakes has been widely recognized for her work, with 105,000 followers on Instagram and nearly 200,000 followers on TikTok. So, when she had the idea to go big with seven wedding cakes, she was confident she could do it.
"I always wanted to do something different but wasn’t sure on the scale of it, as I make cakes for everyone else and rarely for myself," Lucy says. "This was going to be my special day and I wanted to bring personal aspects of our lives into our wedding."
"If the restaurant had enough space to store them I probably would have done more cakes but sadly they couldn’t store them all!" she adds.
In hindsight, it was probably a good thing that the restaurant couldn't fit more cakes because making so many cakes in such a short time period, on top of dealing with other wedding details, was "a lot" for Lucy.
"A wedding is one of the most stressful events most couples will have to go through," says Lucy, who got engaged just nine months before her wedding in March 2024. "Then to take on the stress of not just making one wedding cake but seven…it felt so overwhelming and I did feel like I was drowning the week leading up to the wedding."
She adds: "Not something I recommend any bride doing two days before her wedding."
Luckily, her hard work was worth it.
"The cakes turned out better than anything I could have imagined and it felt so special that I could be so proud of myself on my wedding day," Lucy says. "It is something I will always look back on and feel like I really achieved something different for our day. The effort, stress and worry was 100% worth it!"
Each cake had a different flavor and ornate colorful pipework.
"The flavour of the main three-tier cake was classic vanilla sponge, then we had vanilla lemon, vanilla raspberry, vanilla jam, chocolate hazelnut, chocolate plain, and chocolate Nutella."
The wedding cakes were arranged by Lucy on her wedding day on a dessert table themed "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue!" Thanks to the assistance of her maid of honor and the restaurant staff, Lucy was able to place everything perfectly without getting any frosting on her white suit.
"The guests were so blown away by the table, I even provided the guests with takeaway boxes so that they could enjoy it the day after the wedding," Lucy says. "They all know me for my baking but not everyone has been able to try some, so it was the perfect opportunity to provide my bakes to all our loved ones."

Her "Something Old" was "the famous brownies that started in 2008." "Something New" was a new flavored sponge cake that she baked just for her wedding. Krispy Kreme donuts counted as "Something Borrowed," and one of the cakes was her "something blue."
The takeaway boxes were labeled "and something for you," and had personalized paper inside with the couple's "L&O" initials.
Other custom details include the couple's little sausage dog, Frank, as a figure on the chocolates, as well as figurines of Lucy and Oliver for the main cake topper.
"We also scented the room in our favorite Diptyque Baies candle and had a set cocktail menu of our favorite drinks," Lucy shares. "Each menu also had a photo of us with that guest attached to it, so personalization was a really important part of our day."
