Designer hits back over 'dental floss' lingerie backlash: 'Best seller'

A lingerie designer has responded to some of the reactions one of her daring pieces received after it went viral on social media this week.

The Hollywood Glam two-piece from Bras N Things features a $59.99 cup-less bra and $29.99 crotchless briefs, with neither item providing any kind of modesty or coverage. But the risqué look is described as a 'best-seller' on the brand's website.

The design sent shoppers into a spin after it was posted to the brand's Facebook on Monday, with the photo receiving tens of thousands of comments.

Many simply likened the look to 'strung ham', though others thought the design was 'ridiculous'.

"Can't wait to approach hubby concealing it under a large dressing gown, ask him if somebody ordered a delivery of roast ham, only to dramatically strip off in front of him and start twerking to 'down down, prices are down'," one person joked.

"I usually love bras n things... But this is just ridiculous, sorry. Doesn't leave anything to the imagination, not at all glam," another commented.

"Jesus take the wheel…how the hell do you think women are meant to contain 50 plus kilos of fat, flaps and flab in this horrendous get-up?" another shopper asked.

"It like when you wear your face mask but with your nose sticking out," was another reaction, while one person said: "Ohh! Thats where i left my dental floss!

Senior Bras N Things designer Jana responded to some of the reactions in a post on her Instagram, calling some of the comments "wildly funny".

"So, this week one of my designs was posted on our Facebook page…..we didn’t expect it would go viral," she wrote.

"I’m not offended, as I’ve been designing for years & there is always someone who doesn’t like what you do."

She did however point out that the design was selling like "hot 'hams'" or "flaming 'flap floss'".

She also took to her Instagram stories, to share a photo of herself in last year's version of the daring look - which was released in red.

"Because you all asked," she wrote. "Xmas Ham here you have it! Last year's colour and best seller."

A Bras N Things spokesperson also told Yahoo Lifestyle: "We have loved the comments and that it has allowed women to express themselves and have some fun with it (as indicated by the sales and interest!), it’s what our brand is all about – along with our fashionable diverse ranges.

"Styles like this one aren’t to everyone’s taste, we know that! But that’s the beauty of the brand, we have something for everyone, along with those that also might want to try something new and a little adventurous!"
