Just when we thought last weeks leg-washing debate had exposed the true underbelly of human hygiene, it’s gotten so much worse.

After almost 20% of responders to a Twitter poll posted by user Conor Arpwel admitted they skip the pins in the shower, Twitter has erupted once again, this time over feet.

A follow up to the leg-washing debate has sparked renewed controversy, after Twitter user Katie Alexander asked the public their thoughts on washing feet.

This time, however, it didn’t turn into the diplomatic debate she probably imagined.

People weren’t having a bar (of soap) of it.

In just two days the tweet has prompted thousands of responses and likes, and the reactions are priceless.

“I never heard of anyone not washing their feet. I don’t even know how to respond,” one perplexed user wrote.

Others had some strong words for the hapless Katie.

“For the love of God, wash your feet! It’s basic hygiene,” implored one distressed bystander.

“Yes. Wash your whole body head to toe,” agreed another user.

At least Katie saw the error of her ways, and took it all in her stride.

“Katie....delete this,” advised one woman.

“Oh how I wish I had never said anything! “ Katie replied. “But on principle, I don’t delete tweets. You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube...”

While we applaud her honesty and commitment to the tweet, all anyone is wondering now is if she even uses toothpaste.

Perhaps the general takeaway message for all of us is best summed up by user streetonomics:

Honestly, same.
