Brad Paisley's 2 Kids: All About William 'Huck' and Jasper
Brad Paisley is a father to two kids with his wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley
Brad Paisley and his wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley have welcomed two children since getting married in 2003.
The "Whiskey Lullaby" singer and his wife had their first son, William "Huck" Huckleberry, in 2007, and their second son, Jasper Warren, in 2009. Two years later, Brad told The Boot how fatherhood had changed "everything" for him.
"It changes your sleep patterns, most of all," he shared. "It changes your beliefs in almost [everything]; it just shakes you to your core. One of my favorite sayings that I've heard somewhere is: 'It's to have your heart go walking around without you.' It really is that way, so you feel things deeper. I'm no longer concerned about my safety; I'm concerned for two other human beings' safety, and it makes you that much deeper as a human being."
Brad also credits his wife for being an amazing mother and keeping their "house afloat," he told PEOPLE in March 2021.
"You keep our house afloat — seeing you give birth to two kids and raise a third is amazing," he said to her during the interview, jokingly counting himself as a third child alongside his boys. "And you try to do the right thing all the time."
The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 allowed the family to spend more time together, too, as Kimberly, an actress, stopped production on her projects and Brad paused touring.
"I'm able to be home and present in a way that I haven't been, so that part is nice," he told PEOPLE in May 2020. "The fires in the fireplace and everybody sitting around, that's pretty great. I don't want to look back on this when I've complained for years about not having time for certain things, like fishing with my kids and hiking in the woods. We're trying to do that as much as we can."
From their childhoods to their passions, here's everything to know about Brad Paisley's two kids.
William Huckleberry, 16
Brad and Kimberly's older son, William "Huck" Huckleberry Paisley, was born on Feb. 22, 2007. At the time, Brad opened up to PEOPLE about becoming a father.
"Before Huck arrived, I thought, 'I'm a free spirit — how am I going to give that up?' " he said. "I confided in my preacher, who told me, 'You won't even remember what you gave up — it will be that inconsequential.' He's right. The first time you come home and your son sees you and laughs, you forget."
He added, "Having Huck has taught me the importance of quality time. On tour, I go away three days a week, but when I'm home I get to spend the whole day with him."
Brad and Kimberly gave PEOPLE an inside look into Huck's personality when he was just a baby, calling him a "happy Buddha" who was "happy just taking things in," Kimberly said.
Brad added, "He's all boy. There's nothing delicate about him. He's a total guy and loves the remote control, so we'd stick the remote down and he'd make his way to it."
In 2009, Brad shared that Huck's personality was developing more at 2 years old — and so was his passion for bulldozer toy trucks.
"He's not a laid-back kid. He's a go-getter. He's ready to go when he gets up," Brad said, adding that Huck was a "very animated, fiery and dramatic" child. As a toddler, Huck loved to play the banjo, with Brad sharing, "The greatest question he's asked is, 'Mommy, does Jesus play the banjo?' "
Huck celebrated his 15th birthday in 2022, and his mom shared a sweet tribute to him on Instagram with a photo of herself heavily pregnant with him.
"February 22nd, 2007. Here I am, trying to get Huck to want to come out, after my water broke 24+ hours earlier, just like in the movies. We didn't know anything about him yet-not even his name," she wrote.
She continued, "But in this pic, I didn't know yet how much he'd make us laugh, how gorgeous and interesting his art would be, how brave and kind his heart is. Happy 15th birthday Huck!! We love you so!! ❤️❤️."
He also has a love for music, like his dad. In May 2019, Kimberly shared a photo of Huck sitting at a piano with a pup by his side.
Jasper Warren, 14
Brad and Kimberly's younger son, Jasper Warren Paisley, was born on April 17, 2009. He weighed in at 9 lbs., 10 oz at birth — and was 12 days late. His middle name, Warren, was given after Brad's grandfather, who gave him his first guitar and encouraged him to pursue a music career.
As for the name Jasper, Brad admitted that it was decided more on a whim. "My wife had a dream that we had a little boy and named him Jasper ... so we named him Jasper. That's the only reason," he said.
When Kimberly was expecting Jasper, Huck delivered the happy news to Brad in a sweet way. "I said, 'No, you don't get it. This is really bad for you and I. This isn't gonna be fun for us for the next nine months. We're in for it,' " Brad joked upon learning about baby No. 2.
Brad shared in 2010 that his sons, who were 3 1/2 and 19 months at the time, were total opposites in personality.
"The first child — his name is Huck — is a lot like me. He shares my disposition and focuses on a lot of things," he said during a press conference. "Then the second child is the opposite of Huck ... which I think happens a lot. In some way he's becoming my favorite just by the fact that he's not like me."
To celebrate his 13th birthday in 2022, Kimberly shared a touching birthday post for Jasper on Instagram. But instead of a photo of him, she shared one of herself from when she was 13, explaining that she wouldn't be posting pictures of her son's face.
She also revealed more about Jasper's personality and his love of nature.
"Jasper is such a light in our family, wise and patient beyond his years, dryly funny and passionate about good things. One of the gifts I got him is a bug trap, so when there is a bug in the house, he can trap it and take it outside rather than have one of us squash it. These things are important to him. And cheetahs. And @lego. I love him so much. Happy birthday Jasper, happy Spring and happy Easter to all of you. 🎉❤️💐🐣," she ended the caption.
Jasper loves animals and is passionate about caring for fish — especially pufferfish. In 2021, Brad shared with PEOPLE that he performed surgery on one of Jasper's pufferfish when he noticed the animal was starting to lose weight. After doing some research and consulting a friend who was a brain surgeon about steady hands, he went to work.
"You put him in the bucket, and he started to drift and go sideways, so I grabbed him in the net and held him," he said. "They've got like a beak, and I clipped it and thought I killed him — but he made it! These are the things in a pandemic you do yourself."
