During the Season 4 finale, Homelander tasked The Deep, Black Noir and Firecracker with taking out everyone at Vought who had damaging information about him and The Seven. Needless to say, it was a very long list — but Deep noticed that one name was missing and added it to the sheet: Ashley.
When the Vought CEO overheard that she was also a target, she frantically rushed to Homelander’s suite and injected herself with Compound-V, no doubt hoping to give herself a leg up against the supes out to kill her.
While it’s currently unclear what kind of superpower Ashley might get — the transformation certainly looked painful — her portrayer Colby Minifie has “so many ideas” about the kind of ability she hopes her character will have, the actress says.
“They all are humiliating and disgusting, because I think they have to be humiliating for Ashley. Like, she has to, like, hide in a closet to get her power ready somewhere, because it’s not going to be that easy for Ashley,” Minifie shares in the above video. “There has to be, like, a bittersweet part of this, I think, but I don’t know what they’re going to choose.”
Of course, Ashley might not even be in this position and fearing Homelander’s wrath if she had followed through on her idea in last week’s episode to get out of the country with A-Train. But when the supe later came to her and said it was time to go now that Homelander knew he was the mole, Ashley was unable to leave.
“I think the devil you know is much safer to her than the devil she doesn’t know,” Minifie explains. “I also think that she knows the inner workings of Vought too closely. I think she knows, on some level, that she wouldn’t last a day knowing what she knows. I think she would be hunted down and murdered pretty quickly.”
Plus, “that’s a really new alliance that she’s formed with A-Train,” the actress continues. “A-Train’s been a pain in her ass for so many years, and I think there is a new trust there, but to drop everything and go based on” an idea she had when “she was really drunk” is a big ask.
Even though she’s under constant threat at Vought, “I think it absolutely terrifies her to actually leave the thing. It’s like leaving an abuser. Like, it’s much harder to leave when you don’t know what the other world looks like,” Minifie notes.
