Who Is Bluegrass Musician Billy Strings' Wife? All About Ally Dale
'California Sober' singer Billy Strings met his wife in a bar
Musician Billy Strings didn’t expect to meet the love of his life when he went for a drink during his downtime.
The “Dust in a Baggie” singer was at the Ore Dock Brewing Co. in Marquette, Mich. when he first laid eyes on his future wife, who was bartending at the time.
“I went in for a beer and she left the water running and I reached over [the] bar and turned it off,” Strings explained in March 2024 during a Reddit Ask Me Anything. “When she came back to shut it off she saw I had already done it .. love at first sight.”
Strings and Dale later married in an inmate ceremony on Sept. 9, 2023. The wedding took place at the Hoxeyville Music Festival site in Michigan, with an all-star guest list.
“One week later, I am still floating in the dream that was our perfect wedding day ✨,” Dale wrote on Instagram underneath a carousel of photos from the big day. One image showed the newlyweds hand-in-hand, while others showed details of the rustic wedding decor.
A year later, Strings and Dale welcomed their first child, River Roy Apostol, and announced the news on Instagram.
So, who is Billy Strings’ wife? Here’s everything to know about Ally Dale and her relationship with the bluegrass musician.
She’s a yoga instructor
Dale is a yoga instructor and is the founder and lead facilitator of Ally Flows Yoga. A Yoga Alliance certified teacher, her studio is based in Nashville, Tenn. and she offers in-person and remote classes.
In June 2022, she completed her 200-hour YTT certification at the Mindful School of Yoga in Grand Rapids.
She also often leads yoga sessions at events around the country. In September 2023, she teamed up with her husband to teach a sold-out session at Billy Strings Renewal 2023 in Buena Vista, Colo.
She was Strings’ tour manager
During the early days of their relationship and Strings’ music career, Dale would join him on the road as his tour manager.
“When she joined and jumped in the van, it was that. It was a van,” the music star told NPR's World Cafe in 2022. "It went from a van and five people to 20 people on two or three tour buses."
In a fall 2019 interview with Garden & Gun, the couple gave some insight into tour life, including Dale's security protocols. Strings also shared that the couple had moved to Nashville in 2016 when his career started taking off.
She and Strings had famous wedding singers at their 2023 nuptials
The Grammy-winning bluegrass musician had an all-star lineup of performers at his September 2023 wedding — including himself.
Strings shared the stage with Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool and Bob Weir during a performance at the post-ceremony celebrations.
Many different bands played at the wedding, but Strings was blown away by Grateful Dead rocker Weir’s heartfelt tribute to him and his new wife.
“A big one was when Bob Weir sang ‘When I Paint My Masterpiece’ for me and Ally and it was the sweetest thing ever. The vibes were out of this world,” he wrote during a Reddit Ask Me Anything. “Such a special moment.”
She shares one child with Strings
Strings and Dale welcomed their first child, a son named River Roy Apostol, on Sept. 29, 2024. The new mom announced the news on Instagram, writing, "Our strong, resilient, beautiful boy ... We are beyond blessed this sweet soul chose us to be his parents."
Dale and Strings shared about their pregnancy in a joint Instagram post three months before River's arrival. “The love grows ❤️ We can’t wait to meet baby boy this fall,” they wrote in the caption.
In another series of photos, Dale and Strings are standing by a pond while the singer caresses his wife’s baby bump. “Mom and Dad,” Dale captioned the post of the couple wearing matching blue outfits.
She and Strings attended Willie Nelson’s 90th birthday
At the end of April 2023, the couple celebrated country singer Willie Nelson’s 90th birthday at a two-day event that took place at the Hollywood Bowl.
The all-star event included a four-hour concert each night, with performances from over 50 artists like Nelson, Allison Russell, Bobby Weir and Strings. A-list guests were in attendance at the televised event, including Jennifer Garner, Chris Stapleton and Dave Matthews.
Strings performed Nelson's iconic song "Whiskey River" to a cheering crowd on the first night of the event.
