We guess the flavours of this summer's whackiest gins

There is nothing to salute a summer evening like a gin and tonic so crisp it’s like a light breeze cutting through the heat.

This summer, gin lovers are destined for a whole new take on of the summer speciality with major brands releasing flavoured varieties designed to add a little zest to the long hot nights.

For most, the straight taste of gin is far too overpowering to pick up subtle notes and fragrances released by a tonic or soda mixer.

Our ears pricked up however when hwe heard a few of our favourites were adding some bold flavours to their botanicals, and we couldn’t help but wonder if they could be detected by an unassuming gin taster.

First up was Whitley Neill, which was always going to win in a straight gin testing, as the gin is designed to be drunk with soda rather than tonic due to its strong and sweet flavour.

Then we had Hendricks’ limited edition floral essence’s Midsummer Solstice Gin.

The Hendrick’s is a far more traditional gin, so while it may have hit the palate slightly harder on its own that the very sweet Whitely did, we can confirm it’s delightful with a tonic, or even soda and slice of cucumber.

A few guinea pigs managed to pick up on the floral notes, but the gin doesn’t overwhelm you with flavour, showcasing subtle notes that make it slightly more up the average gin connessieur’s alley.

Whitley Neill can be purchased mybottleshop online.

Hendrick’s Midsummer is limited edition, so should be speedily picked up from any bottle-o, or online.
