Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Celebrated His Birthday in Quirky Patterned Outfits
It's giving eclectic grandpa.
Blake Lively may have celebrated her birthday at Taylor Swift's Rhode Island mansion, but when it came time to ring in her husband's 48th, the couple took a different tack. Rather than host another star-studded affair, Lively and Ryan Reynolds paid a visit to the Tony-nominated Broadway musical & Juliet, bringing three of their children along for the ride: James, Inez, and Betty.
"I don't know what to get him for his birthday? What do you get him for his birthday? I know he loves musicals, I love musicals, the kids love musicals. So it felt like the right choice!" Lively told the cast, according to People.
Both Lively and Reynolds choose delightfully quirky outfits for their Broadway visit. On the heels of a long bout of method dressing for It Ends With Us, Lively kept it casual in a black and white polka dress, black sparkly boots, and a black blazer. For his part, Reynolds donned khaki chinos, a white T-shirt, and a patterned vest that effortlessly channeled the eclectic grandpa aesthetic.
To celebrate the big 4-8, the cast and crew of & Juliet sang "Happy Birthday" to Reynolds backstage, then posed for some photos with the family. According to an insider, Lively was "blown away" by the musical, which was nominated for a whopping nine Tony Awards in 2023. It traces an alternate history for Juliet from the classic Shakespearean drama Romeo & Juliet, imagining what would have happened to the heroine had she survived and been able to live on her own terms.
