Blake Lively via her Instagram on July 26, 2024Deadpool & Wolverine's release has Blake Lively fondly recalling the beginnings of her relationship with Ryan Reynolds.
On Friday, July 26, Lively, 36, shared a number of photos to Instagram of her red carpet look from the movie's July 22 premiere in New York City and new details regarding Ladypool, the character she cameos as in the new Marvel movie.
"In 2010, I was on Gossip Girl and about to film my first superhero movie, The Green Lantern, with my kind Canadian costar @vancityreynolds," Lively wrote, recalling that her husband — the pair began dating in 2011 and married in 2012 — first told her and their costar Taika Waititi about Marvel's Deadpool character.
"It was a 'meta' superhero," she wrote in a caption. "Most of us didn’t know what exactly meta meant back then. Except Taika bc he’s always been more brilliant than the rest of us mortals. We understood in theory, but how it would come together for an audience was murky, for everyone but him. It wasn’t a real dream. The movie was never gonna happen."
As Lively wrote, the comic book artist who co-created Deadpool, Rob Liefeld, first conceived of a Lady Deadpool character in 2010 and based the character on Lively because he was a fan of her series Gossip Girl.
"Rob had no idea I was working with @vancityreynolds," she wrote in her caption, adding that she learned Liefeld based the character on her in 2022 after he shared that bit of inspiration on Instagram.
"12 years later I read Rob’s post. A year after that, @deadpoolmovie 3 was filmed," she added. "And today it’s in theaters. The universe has such a magical sense of humor sometimes."
