Blake Lively Put a Whimsical Twist on the Divisive Dress Over Pants Trend
She made the controversial Y2K combo look so chic.
Blake Lively can do no sartorial wrong, a point which she’s only further illustrated with the dopamine dressing pieces she’s brought to the It Ends With Us press circuit and the launch of her new Blake Brown hair care line. Less than 24 hours after stepping out in not one, but four vivid floral creations, Lively’s wardrobe was in full bloom once again as she made a chic case for bringing back one of the noughties’ most controversial style trends. On Sunday, the Gossip Girl alum turned heads in New York City wearing a polka-dotted dress over a printed pair of floral pants.
The actress experimented with layers, lengths, and prints with her bold look, which included a black-and-white sleeveless halter dress with a graphic polka dot design. As she turned around, she gave viewers a glimpse of the completely backless design and the large bow tied around her neck.
Lively styled the dress with only one button done, showing a flash of midriff and her colorful floral slacks. The pants’ abstract design married light blue, yellow, and orange flowers into a bouquet of colors, a print that also came through in the matching trench coat that Lively wore draped around her elbows.
The star showed off her signature California It girl beauty look, wearing her hair in Serena van der Woodsen-esque waves with a Y2K side part and keeping her makeup natural and bronzed. A pair of statement gold and blue earrings and simple strappy heels completed her look.
Later in the day, Lively did an outfit change, stepping out in a floral twist on the Gen Z-loved office siren aesthetic. As the actress posed for photos outside of CBS, she stunned in a blue and white floral skirt suit complete with a cinched plunging blazer and a tight pencil skirt. She added a pair of baby-blue Mary Jane pumps and an It Ends With Us press accessory staple: A flower-inspired purse. Sunday’s clutch looked like a white flower and was accented with gold hardware and a luxe chain that Lively wore around her fingers.
