Billy Dee Williams Says Donald Glover Is 'Talented' in “Star Wars”, but 'There's Only One Lando Calrissian'
Williams spoke about Glover in an interview earlier this month with U.K magazine 'Radio Times'
Billy Dee Williams is sharing his thoughts on Donald Glover playing his previous Star Wars role, Lando Calrissian.
"I had a nice little lunch with him,” Williams, 86, told UK magazine Radio Times earlier this month. “He's a delightful young man. Extremely talented. But I don't see him… I mean, when it comes to Lando Calrissian there's only one Lando Calrissian. I created that character.”
"I told him to be charming - two words!,” the actor continued. “That's all I needed to tell him. That's all I could think of."

"He's part of a whole new generation,” Williams said of Glover, 40. “He'll create whatever he needs to create, to bring appeal to the character. He's a very talented young lad and very imaginative. I mean, it's not for me to say what he should do with the character at this stage.”
"I took care of the 20th century, now he’s got to take care of the 21st,” he added.

Williams portrayed the role of Lando Calrissian in 1980's The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi in 1983 and The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. Glover, however, played the younger version of Lando in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.
The Mr. & Mrs. Smith star is also set to take on the role again in a feature film after he was previously working on a Star Wars spinoff series with his brother Stephen Glover.
“It’s not even a show,” Stephen said in an episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast, per Deadline. “The idea right now is to do a movie. … Right now because of the strike, it’s like [a game of] telephone.”
