Bills send all rookies home from training camp after 5 positive COVID-19 tests

The Buffalo Bills sent all their rookies home from training camp on Thursday following a fifth positive COVID-19 test at the facility.

Players who were at the facility for meetings will instead participate in virtual meetings,” NFL Network reports. The Bills announced the decision in a statement.

‘Proactive and preventative approach’

“As we were informed by medical experts as training camp opened, we expected to have positive tests for COVID,” the statement reads. “With five since the beginning of the testing period last Tuesday, we decided to take a disciplined, proactive and preventative approach to hopefully eliminate additional cases within our team.”

The team did not announce a timeline for planning to resume in-person activities.

Bills rookies reported to camp on July 21 at the team’s facilities in Orchard Park, New York, just outside of Buffalo. Prior to Thursday, three Bills players had tested positive and were placed on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list. NFL Network reports that two more Bills players were added on Thursday.

Players are not allowed to enter team facilities until passing three consecutive COVID-19 tests, meaning that any players who tested positive did so after being initially cleared.

Veterans have not yet reported to Bills facilities for training camp.
