There’s some bad news for Bill Shorten, Scott Morrison and crew: the federal election could be outshone by another major event just announced for 18 May.

No, it’s not Eurovision (which also falls on that weekend).

It’s Aldi’s snow gear special buys sale.

Described as the “biggest day of the Aldi year” by a member of an Aldi ski sale forum on ski.com.au, the sale will see jackets, boots, goggles and underlayers hit shelves for a limited time only, and for discounted prices.

At previous sales, adult ski jackets and pants have sold for less than $70 each - significantly cheaper than other retailers’ $100-$200 price tags.

And shoppers know it.

Last year’s sale saw queues out the door and through the carpark, one follower of Instagram page, Aldi Lovers Australia added.

Others said there were dozens of people waiting outside the doors before the stores had even opened.

For some, the frenzy is just too much.

“It was terrible seeing so many queues just for this. There is more life to this than queues for me,” another follower lamented.

“They were like pigs at the trough…” commented another. “No consideration for any other shopper.”

Aldi’s sales are notoriously hectic, with a previous Aldi caravanning sale described as a “mass stampede”.
